In Spain, also known as the Transpirenaica, the GR11 trail stretches the entire length of the Spanish Pyrenees. Over a distance of 840km/ 522 miles, you will cross over the mountains of Navarra, Aragon, and Catalonia. Of which the latter two regions will give you steeper and higher mountains and a hotter climate compared to the Navarra region. The GR11 route is quite well marked with red and white stripes, but it is advisable to still take maps and some navigational skills with you. The GR11 can be hiked starting at either end, either in Hondarribia on the Atlantic Coast or Cap de Creus on the Mediterranean Coast. Along the way, you will be hiking on great formed paths, 4x4 tracks, and narrow rocky paths in the high mountains. And you will be rewarded by many breathtaking vistas while tackling the many challenging descents and ascents, sometimes covering as much as 1600m/5250 ft in one day.
