Terms of Service
THE FINE PRINT · HOW OUR STUDIO, WEBSITE AND ORDERS WORK
The terms for using Tell Your Trail, placing an order, and working with us on made-to-order, custom, and route-based designs.
Overview & who these terms apply to
These are the terms for using our website and buying from Tell Your Trail — wherever in the world you are.
These Terms of Service apply when you visit tellyourtrail.com, use our website, create a design, upload route information, contact us, or place an order with Tell Your Trail. We welcome customers from all over the world, and these Terms apply to everyone who uses our website or orders from us.
By using our website or placing an order, you agree to these Terms, together with the other policies linked on our website, including our:
- Legal Notice / Seller Information
- Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy
- Shipping & Delivery Policy
- Privacy Policy
- Cookie Policy
- Studio & Custom Orders Policy, where applicable
If you're a consumer, you always keep the mandatory consumer rights of your own country — nothing in these Terms takes those away.
If you don't agree with these Terms, please don't use our website or place an order.
In these Terms, "Tell Your Trail", "we", "us" and "our" mean the business identified below. "You" means the person using the website, placing an order, or communicating with us.

Using our website
Please use the site lawfully, honestly, and only for its intended purpose.
You may use our website to browse our products, create or personalize designs, upload supported route information where available, contact us, and place orders.
Our website, products, and services are intended for customers who are able to enter into a binding contract. If you are under the age of majority in your country of residence, you may use our website, create a design, upload route information, or place an order only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian.
If a parent or legal guardian allows a minor to use our website, create a design, submit content, upload route information, or place an order, the parent or legal guardian is responsible for that activity.
Our website is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children where parental consent is required by law. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without the required permission, please contact us at contact@tellyourtrail.com.
You agree not to use the website in a way that:
- breaks the law;
- infringes our rights or someone else’s rights;
- interferes with the website or its security;
- uploads viruses, malware, or harmful code;
- attempts to scrape, copy, overload, reverse-engineer, or misuse the website;
- submits false, misleading, abusive, or unlawful content;
- uses our products, designs, or services for illegal or unauthorized purposes.
We may restrict, suspend, or refuse access to the website if we reasonably believe someone is misusing it or breaching these Terms.
What we sell
We create made-to-order wall art and related custom design services.
Tell Your Trail sells wall art and design services inspired by trails, routes, races, road trips, and outdoor adventures.
Our products and services may include:
- unframed physical posters;
- made-to-order printed wall art;
- personalized poster designs;
- fully bespoke designs;
- route-based designs created from customer-provided route information;
- occasional digital files;
- related services, tools, and features.
Unless clearly stated otherwise, physical posters are sold unframed.
Our products are intended as decorative wall art. They are not official maps, safety tools, navigation aids, route guides, or emergency resources. You should not rely on our designs for navigation, trip planning, safety decisions, or route accuracy.
Product images, colors & product details
We show our products as clearly as we can — but screens and print don't always match perfectly.
We try to describe and show our products as accurately as possible. That said, colors, contrast, paper appearance, scale, and layout can look different depending on your screen, device settings, browser, or the printing process.
Product photos, previews, mockups, and lifestyle images are there to give you a good idea of the product — the final printed poster may look slightly different from what you see on screen.
Paper, finish and print variation. Our posters are printed on real paper, and different papers naturally look and feel different — in texture, weight, brightness, and how colors sit on them. Small variations in color, cropping, alignment, texture, or print finish are a normal part of printing. As long as the product matches what was described at the time of purchase, these variations are not a fault, and the choice of paper or finish is part of the product you ordered rather than a defect.
Where a product has options — such as size, color, orientation, paper, personalization, or design — please check your selections carefully before you order, so you receive the poster you intended to choose.
This doesn't affect your rights if a product arrives genuinely faulty, damaged, or not as described — those are covered by your legal guarantee (section 13) and our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Orders & acceptance
When you place an order, we check the details and then prepare it for production.
When you place an order, you are making an offer to buy the selected product or service under these Terms.
After you place an order, you may receive an automatic order confirmation. This means we have received your order, but it does not mean we have accepted it in every case.
We may refuse, cancel, or refund an order if:
- the product or service is unavailable;
- there is an obvious pricing, description, or technical error;
- payment is not completed or is reversed;
- the order appears fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful;
- the order contains content we cannot produce;
- shipping to the destination is not possible or legally permitted;
- we reasonably believe the order breaches these Terms.
If we cancel an order after payment, we will refund the amount paid for the canceled item unless we are legally allowed to withhold an amount, for example because work has already started on a custom service with your agreement.
You are responsible for providing accurate order details, including your name, email address, billing details, shipping address, personalization details, and any design instructions.
Prices, taxes, currencies & payment
The final amount payable, including any tax, is shown before you place your order.
Prices are shown on the website and confirmed at checkout before you complete your order.
Taxes. We are a VAT-registered business in Italy, and prices shown to consumers include any VAT that applies. The tax applied depends on where your order is delivered, and the exact amount is shown at checkout before you pay. For deliveries outside the EU, no EU VAT is charged, but import VAT, customs duties, or local charges may be payable in the destination country on arrival — see section 11.
Currencies. Our main business currency is EUR. Depending on your location and the options available at checkout, prices may be displayed or paid in another currency. Your bank, card provider, payment provider, or wallet provider may apply currency-conversion fees, foreign-transaction fees, or other charges. These charges are not set or controlled by Tell Your Trail.
Import charges on international orders. For deliveries outside the EU (and in some cases to specific territories), import duties, customs charges, local taxes, or handling fees may apply on arrival and are the customer's responsibility unless clearly stated otherwise at checkout. More details are in our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
Payment. Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. We do not store your full payment card details. Your order is confirmed once payment is completed; if a payment fails or is reversed, we may cancel or hold the order.
Price changes and promotions. We may change product prices, shipping prices, promotions, or offers at any time. Price changes do not affect orders already accepted, unless there has been an obvious error. Where we advertise a price reduction on a product, we show the applicable reference price in line with consumer-protection rules on price-reduction transparency.
Made-to-order production
Most physical products are produced after you order.
Most Tell Your Trail products are made to order. This means the item is usually created, printed, or prepared specifically after your order is placed.
Made-to-order production helps us reduce waste and avoid holding unnecessary stock, but it also means orders may move into production quickly.
Because of this, cancellation, return, and refund rules may depend on:
- whether production has already started;
- whether the item is standard, personalized, custom-made, bespoke, or digital;
- whether the item is defective, damaged, incorrect, or simply unwanted;
- which consumer rights apply to your order.
Please read our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy before ordering.
Customization, self-designed posters, bespoke work & route-based designs
Some designs you create yourself in the Studio, and some we create with you — each works a little differently.
Depending on the product or feature, you may be able to:
- upload or use route information, such as GPX, KML, KMZ, Polarsteps, CSV, or other supported files;
- create a route-based poster yourself in our Studio;
- personalize an existing design by changing titles, subtitles, colors, statistics, names, dates, quotes, locations, or other details;
- add waypoint names, markers, route information, event details, or adventure details;
- request manual customization or fully bespoke design work from us.
Studio-created and self-personalized designs. For designs you create or personalize yourself in the Studio, the preview shown before checkout is your proof to approve — it's the exact version we'll produce, and by placing your order you're approving that design for printing. Because of this, we don't send a separate draft afterwards, so please check everything carefully before you order: spelling, names, dates, route lines, locations, statistics, colors, layout, size, orientation, and any other personalized details. We may show reminders or check-messages along the way, but these don't replace your own review before ordering.
Manual customization and bespoke work. For manual customizations and fully bespoke orders, we always send you a draft by email before printing. Please check it carefully — spelling, names, dates, quotes, route details, colors, layout, size, and orientation — and give us your approval in writing before we produce it. We won't send anything to print until we've received your written approval, so please reply to confirm you're happy with the draft.
Once you've approved a draft, or placed an order after reviewing a Studio preview, we're not responsible for errors that were visible in the version you approved or submitted — unless the final product differs from it because of our mistake, in which case we'll put it right.
You're responsible for making sure the information and content you give us is accurate, lawful, and suitable for your order. For custom, bespoke, self-designed, or route-based work:
- You must have the right to use any content, data, names, quotes, logos, route information, event details, or other material you provide;
- You must not submit content that infringes someone else's rights;
- You must not submit offensive, unlawful, misleading, private, or harmful content;
- We may refuse content or instructions we reasonably consider unsuitable;
- Please double-check spellings, names, dates, locations, statistics, and route details, as these are your responsibility;
- We may make small technical adjustments where needed to prepare your design for printing.
Because these products are made to your specifications, they can't be canceled, returned, or withdrawn once design work or production has started, except where the law requires otherwise or the item is faulty, damaged, or incorrect.
You'll find more details in our Studio & Custom Orders Policy and Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Digital products
Digital files have different delivery and cancellation rules.
From time to time, we may provide digital files, such as high-resolution poster files.
At this stage, our digital files are personalized or custom-made for you — for example, a file created from your route, your details, or a bespoke or customized design. We do not currently sell our standard catalog designs as digital files.
Digital products are delivered electronically and are not shipped physically.
You may use a digital product only for the purpose stated at the time of purchase. Unless we agree otherwise in writing, buying a digital product does not give you ownership of the underlying design, source file, route-processing method, template, artwork system, or intellectual property.
You may not resell, redistribute, upload, share, copy, modify, or otherwise exploit a digital file, whether for personal or commercial purposes, unless we have given you written permission.
Because our digital files are made to your specifications or clearly personalized for you, they are exempt from the 14-day right of withdrawal under consumer law once design work or file preparation has started, or the file has been delivered. Digital products are covered in more detail in our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Shipping, delivery & customs
We work with global production partners so orders can be made closer to the customer where possible.
Physical products may be printed, packed, and shipped by professional production and fulfillment partners outside Italy.
Where possible, orders are routed to a suitable production facility based on the customer’s location, product type, availability, fulfillment capacity, and shipping options.
This means your order may be produced and shipped from a country different from Italy and different from the country where you live. We cannot guarantee a specific print location for every order.
Estimated production and delivery times are estimates only. They are not guaranteed delivery dates unless we expressly say so in writing.
Shipping may be affected by production queues, postal delays, courier delays, customs checks, incorrect addresses, failed delivery attempts, local holidays, weather, strikes, or other events outside our control.
For international orders, import duties, customs charges, local taxes, handling fees, or similar costs may apply depending on the destination country. Unless clearly stated otherwise at checkout, these charges are the customer’s responsibility.
If an order is delayed, lost, returned, abandoned, refused, or delivered incorrectly because of an incomplete or incorrect address, unpaid customs charges, failure to collect the parcel, or another issue not caused by us, we may not be able to offer a free replacement or refund. Where possible, reshipment may be offered at the customer’s cost.
Please read our Shipping & Delivery Policy for more details about delivery times, tracking, incorrect addresses, failed deliveries, customs, damaged parcels, and lost orders.
Cancellations, returns & refunds
Cancellation and return rights depend on the product and how far the order has progressed.
Because many of our products are made to order, cancellation and return options depend on the type of order. This section is a summary — the full rules are in our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Standard catalog posters (and gift cards). If you are a consumer and buy one of our catalog designs exactly as shown, with no changes of your own — or a gift card — you have a 14-day right of withdrawal. You can change your mind within 14 days of delivery (or, for a gift card, of purchase), without giving a reason. You can exercise this right using the withdrawal function on our website, by email, or with the model withdrawal form. Return shipping for a withdrawn poster is at your own cost, and the full conditions are set out in the Refunds Policy.
As an additional convenience, if you change your mind soon after ordering, please contact us as quickly as possible. Because our posters are printed to order, we can cancel an order for free only if it has not yet been sent for printing or production. If we can cancel in time, this saves you receiving and returning the poster. Once an order has been sent for printing, we can no longer cancel it this way — but you still have your full 14-day right of withdrawal. This early-cancellation option is a goodwill service and does not replace or shorten your legal rights.
Personalized, custom, bespoke, Studio-created, and route-based orders. Because these are made to your specifications, they do not carry a 14-day change-of-mind right. You may cancel only before design work, file preparation, or production has started. This includes catalog designs you personalize (for example by adding a title, name, or statistic) and posters created from an uploaded route or built in our Studio.
Digital products. Personalized or custom digital files are exempt from the 14-day withdrawal right once work has started or the file has been delivered (see section 10).
Damaged, defective, or incorrect items. These are handled separately, and your legal guarantee always applies — see section 13 and our Refunds Policy.
Nothing in these Terms limits legal rights that cannot be limited by law.
Legal guarantee & damaged items
As a consumer, you have a 2-year legal guarantee if a product is faulty or not as agreed — and this covers all our posters, including personalized ones.
If you are a consumer, you have a legal guarantee of conformity on the physical goods you buy from us. This means that if a product is faulty, arrives damaged, or doesn't match what was agreed, we'll put it right. This guarantee lasts 2 years from delivery, it's separate from and additional to your 14-day right of withdrawal, and it can't be limited or excluded.
It covers all our physical products, including personalized, Studio-created, route-based, and bespoke posters. Even though personalized posters can't be returned simply for a change of mind, they're fully covered if something is wrong with them.
If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, just contact us at contact@tellyourtrail.com as soon as you can, and include your order number and a short description of the issue. We'll also need some specific photos to assess the problem and raise it with our partner — the full list is in our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy (section 07) — and without them we're unable to progress a damage, defect, or incorrect-item claim. This doesn't affect your other legal rights.
If a product doesn't conform, you're first entitled to a free repair or replacement. Because our posters are printed to order, this usually means a corrected reprint. If a repair or replacement isn't possible, can't be done in reasonable time, or doesn't fix things, you may be entitled to a price reduction or refund, in the cases the law provides.
Please don't send anything back before contacting us — because we work with different production and fulfillment locations, the right return process depends on the order, and we'll confirm the details with you.
You'll find the full process for damaged, defective, or incorrect items, and for the legal guarantee, in our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy.
Customer content & permissions
You keep your content, but you give us permission to use it for your order and, where appropriate, to share customer feedback.
When you submit content to Tell Your Trail, you remain responsible for that content.
Customer content may include route files, route data, waypoint names, location information, titles, subtitles, names, dates, quotes, event details, logos, text, design instructions, messages, reviews, photos, testimonials, and any other material you provide.
By submitting customer content, you confirm that:
- the content is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- you have the right to provide it to us;
- our use of it for your order will not infringe anyone else’s rights;
- it does not contain unlawful, harmful, offensive, or misleading material;
- it does not contain private information about someone else without permission.
You give Tell Your Trail permission to use, edit, adapt, format, simplify, display, reproduce, and process your customer content as needed to:
- create your design;
- produce your order;
- prepare previews, proofs, or print files;
- provide customer support;
- handle reprints, corrections, refunds, or disputes;
- keep order records where required or appropriate.
If you submit photos, reviews, testimonials, route information, names, event details, or other content that includes another person, you confirm that you have their permission to share it with us and for us to use it as described in these Terms. If the content includes a child or minor, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, or that you have permission from their parent or legal guardian.
Where possible, we will avoid publishing personal contact details and will usually identify customer feedback by first name, initials, general location, or no name at all. We will not publish your email address, postal address, payment details, or order number.
If we want to use content in a way that clearly identifies you personally, features your face prominently, or shares a detailed personal story, we will ask for your permission first.
You can contact us at contact@tellyourtrail.com if you have concerns about customer content that appears on our website, social media, or marketing materials.
Our intellectual property
Our designs, website, copy, templates, and creative systems belong to us.
Unless stated otherwise, the Tell Your Trail name, logo, website, product designs, templates, layout, copy, illustrations, artwork, generated files, previews, tools, software logic, and other creative materials belong to Tell Your Trail or are used with permission.
Buying a product from us does not transfer ownership of our intellectual property to you.
You may not copy, reproduce, download, save, screenshot, scan, trace, redraw, modify, adapt, imitate, resell, redistribute, publish, upload, extract, scrape, reverse-engineer, or otherwise use our designs, website content, product files, previews, templates, tools, or creative materials without our written permission.
This applies to both personal and commercial use.
You may use the physical or digital product you purchase only in the way expressly allowed at the time of purchase. For example, you may display a physical poster you bought, give it as a gift, or share a photo of the finished poster in your own home or space. You may not copy the design, recreate it, make derivative works from it, use it to create other products, or use it as a template.
For business, event, club, tourism, wholesale, licensing, or commercial use, please contact us first so we can agree the correct terms in writing.
Reviews, messages & feedback
We love hearing from customers, but please only send content you are allowed to share.
If you send us a review, testimonial, message, suggestion, idea, photo, or other feedback, you confirm that you have the right to send it.
We may use general feedback to improve our products, services, website, and customer experience.
How reviews are collected and verified. We use a third-party review tool to collect and display product reviews. We publish reviews from two sources: reviews collected directly through our store, and reviews imported from our Etsy shop.
For reviews collected directly, we verify the review by confirming the reviewer's email address and matching it to an order in our store, and we publish verified reviews by default. Reviews imported from our Etsy shop are reviews left by verified Etsy purchasers, as Etsy only allows reviews from customers who bought the product there.
In all cases, our published reviews come from genuine customers. We do not publish fake reviews, and we do not offer payment or incentives in exchange for positive reviews. We also apply spam and personal-information filters, and we may remove reviews that are unlawful, abusive, misleading, or that breach our content rules.
We will not publish your name, photo, order details, or personal story in marketing materials without permission, unless you have already posted the content publicly or submitted it through a feature that clearly explains it may be displayed publicly, such as a product review tool.
We may remove or refuse to publish content that is abusive, unlawful, misleading, defamatory, discriminatory, spammy, offensive, or infringing.
Third-party tools, links & services
Some parts of the website rely on trusted third-party tools.
Our website may use third-party platforms, apps, tools, payment providers, analytics services, marketing tools, review tools, fulfillment partners, and integrations.
For example, our store is hosted by Shopify, and payments, analytics, marketing, reviews, fulfillment, and order processing may involve third-party service providers.
Third-party links on our website may take you to websites we do not control. We are not responsible for the content, policies, availability, or practices of third-party websites.
Your use of third-party services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
More information about how third parties may process personal data is included in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Website accuracy, errors & availability
We try to keep the site accurate, but mistakes and interruptions can happen.
We do our best to keep the website accurate, current, and available. However, we do not guarantee that the website will always be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fully up to date.
The website may occasionally contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions relating to product descriptions, prices, promotions, shipping costs, delivery estimates, product availability, or other information.
We may correct errors, update information, change or remove content, cancel affected orders, or contact you for instructions where appropriate.
If there is an obvious pricing or product information error, we are not required to fulfill the order at the incorrect price or on the incorrect terms, provided we act fairly and in accordance with applicable law.
Prohibited uses
Please do not misuse our website, tools, designs, or services.
You must not use our website, products, services, or content:
- for unlawful purposes;
- to infringe intellectual property, privacy, image, personality, or other rights;
- to submit false or misleading information;
- to upload viruses, malware, or harmful code;
- to interfere with website security or operation;
- to scrape, crawl, copy, or extract content without permission;
- to harass, abuse, threaten, defame, or discriminate against others;
- to submit obscene, hateful, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate content;
- to impersonate someone else;
- to collect or track personal information about others;
- to resell or commercially exploit our products or services without permission;
- to create competing products, templates, datasets, or services based on our work.
We may refuse service, cancel orders, remove content, or restrict access if we reasonably believe these rules have been breached.
Liability
We are responsible where the law says we are, but we cannot cover every indirect loss.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including your mandatory consumer rights.
We are responsible for providing products and services with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with applicable law.
However, to the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for:
- losses that were not reasonably foreseeable;
- business losses for consumer purchases;
- indirect or consequential losses;
- delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control;
- issues caused by incorrect information supplied by you;
- differences caused by screen settings, normal print variation, or approved design choices;
- use of our products as maps, navigation tools, safety tools, or route-planning resources;
- third-party websites, platforms, services, couriers, payment providers, or fulfillment providers, except where the law makes us responsible.
If you are a consumer, these limits do not affect your legal rights for defective goods, non-conforming goods, or other rights that cannot be limited by contract.
If you are a business customer, section 21 also applies.
Business customers
Different terms may apply for business, wholesale, event, or partner orders.
Most Tell Your Trail customers are consumers, but we may also sell to businesses, event organizers, clubs, tourism boards, charities, or other organizations.
If you buy from us for business, resale, event, professional, or organizational purposes, you are not treated as a consumer for that order unless applicable law says otherwise.
For business customers:
- consumer withdrawal rights may not apply;
- business-specific quotes, invoices, written agreements, or partner terms may override these Terms where expressly agreed;
- you are responsible for ensuring that any content, logos, event names, route information, or brand materials you provide can be used for the order;
- our liability is limited to the amount paid for the relevant order, to the maximum extent permitted by law;
- we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill, or indirect business losses.
Any special commission, partnership, licensing, wholesale, collaboration, or event arrangement must be agreed in writing.
Privacy & cookies
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
When you use our website, place an order, contact us, upload route information, or interact with our tools, we may process personal information.
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you may have.
Our Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies.
By using the website, you should also read those policies.
Governing law & disputes
We're based in Italy, and we'll always try to sort out any problem with you directly first.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the mandatory consumer rights of your own country — wherever you live, you keep those.
If something goes wrong, please email us first at contact@tellyourtrail.com — most things can be sorted out quickly and fairly.
If we can't resolve it together, you're free to bring the matter before a competent court under the consumer law that applies to you. You may also use an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) body if you wish. We haven't committed to any particular ADR body, but options in Italy include the conciliation services of the Italian Chambers of Commerce and the consumer ADR bodies listed by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT).
If you're buying as a business rather than a consumer, the courts of Treviso, Italy have exclusive jurisdiction, unless mandatory law says otherwise.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms when our business, website, services, or legal requirements change.
We may update these Terms from time to time.
When we make changes, we will update the “Updated” date at the top of this page. The version published on this page is the current version.
Changes do not normally affect orders already accepted, unless the change is required by law or relates to a service or feature that continues after the order date.
Your continued use of the website after changes are published means you accept the updated Terms.
