THE FINE PRINT · HOW OUR WEBSITE USES COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
How Tell Your Trail uses cookies, pixels, tags and similar technologies to run the website, remember preferences, understand performance, and support marketing.
Overview
Cookies help our website work — but we only use non-essential cookies with your consent.
This Cookie Policy explains how Tell Your Trail uses cookies and similar technologies on tellyourtrail.com.
Cookies and similar technologies may be used to:
- keep the website and checkout working;
- remember your cart, country, currency, language, or preferences;
- help you create or personalize a poster;
- understand how visitors use the website;
- improve our products, pages, and customer experience;
- measure marketing performance;
- support email marketing, advertising, affiliate, review, and referral tools;
- help protect the website from fraud, abuse, or technical problems.
Some cookies are strictly necessary for the website to work, and these don't require consent. All other cookies — such as analytics, advertising, remarketing, and other tracking cookies — are only used with your consent, which you give or refuse through our cookie banner or the cookie settings link on our website.
This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.
What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files or identifiers that help websites remember information.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They can help a website remember information about your visit, such as your cart, login session, country, currency, or cookie choices.
We may also use similar technologies, such as:
- pixels;
- tags;
- web beacons;
- scripts;
- local storage;
- session storage;
- software development kits;
- server-side tracking events;
- similar online identifiers.
In this policy, we use the word “cookies” to include cookies and these similar technologies.
Cookies may be set by us directly, or by third-party providers that help us run, measure, improve or promote the website.
Who is responsible for cookies on our website
Tell Your Trail is responsible for the cookies we choose to use on our website.

For privacy or cookie questions, contact us at contact@tellyourtrail.com.
Some third-party providers may also set or read cookies or similar technologies through our website. This may happen when we use embedded tools, checkout services, payment providers, analytics tools, advertising pixels, review apps, affiliate tools, or other Shopify apps.
For example, Shopify may use cookies to keep the store, cart and checkout working; payment providers may use cookies or security signals to process payments and prevent fraud; analytics and advertising providers may use cookies or pixels to measure visits, conversions or ads; review and affiliate tools may use cookies to support reviews, referrals or partner attribution.
Some providers process this information only to provide services to us. Others may also process certain information for their own purposes, such as platform security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, service measurement, or advertising systems. Where that happens, the provider may be separately responsible for its own processing, and its own privacy or cookie information may also apply.
Types of cookies we use
We group our cookies by what they do — so it's easy to see what's essential and what's your choice.
Here are the types of cookies we may use:
| Cookie type | What they do | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keep the website, cart, checkout, security, and core services working | Always on — the site can't work properly without them |
| Preference & functionality | Remember choices like your country, currency, language, or display settings | Only with your consent, unless needed for a feature you've asked for |
| Analytics & performance | Help us understand how visitors use the site, so we can improve it | Only with your consent |
| Marketing, advertising & remarketing | Help us measure ads, build audiences, and show more relevant advertising | Only with your consent |
| Affiliate, referral & review | Support referrals, affiliate tracking, product reviews, and feedback tools | Only with your consent, unless needed for a service you've asked for |
| Studio & route-design | Help the Studio work so you can create your design | On where needed for the Studio; only with your consent if used for analytics or marketing |
You can manage your non-essential cookie choices any time through our cookie banner or cookie settings.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies keep the website and checkout working — so they're always on.
Strictly necessary cookies help us give you the website and services you've asked for. They may be used to:
- show the website correctly;
- remember what's in your cart;
- process checkout;
- keep you logged in to your account;
- keep payment and checkout sessions secure;
- detect fraud or security risks;
- remember your cookie choices;
- support the site's security and basic technical functions;
- run essential Shopify store features.
Because these cookies are essential, they're always on and can't be switched off through our cookie banner. You can still block them in your browser settings, but if you do, parts of the website may not work properly.
These may include essential cookies set by Shopify, our checkout and payment providers, security tools, or our cookie-consent tool.
Preference and functionality cookies
These cookies remember your choices, so the website is easier to use next time.
Preference and functionality cookies remember choices such as your:
- country or region;
- currency;
- language;
- cart or display preferences;
- recently viewed products;
- cookie settings;
- other website preferences.
Some of these are needed to give you a feature you've asked for — like keeping your currency set while you shop. Where they're not essential in that way, we use them only with your consent.
Analytics and performance cookies
Analytics cookies help us see what's working and improve the site — and we only use them once you've said yes.
Analytics and performance cookies help us understand how visitors use our website, so we can make it better. They may collect things like:
- which pages and products you view;
- how long you spend on a page;
- what you click;
- the website or campaign that brought you here;
- your approximate location;
- your device and browser type;
- checkout or conversion events;
- errors or performance issues.
We may use tools such as Google Analytics, Shopify's analytics, or similar, to improve the website, our products, the Studio experience, and your overall journey with us.
These cookies aren't essential, so we only use them with your consent. They aren't loaded until you've agreed to them through our cookie banner — if you don't consent, they don't run — and you can withdraw your consent at any time in your cookie settings.
Marketing, advertising and remarketing cookies
These cookies help us measure and show advertising — and we only use them once you've agreed.
Marketing, advertising, and remarketing cookies help us:
- measure how our ads are performing;
- understand whether ads lead to visits or purchases;
- create and measure advertising audiences;
- avoid showing you the same ad too often;
- show you more relevant ads on other platforms;
- support retargeting and remarketing campaigns.
We may use tools such as:
- Meta (Facebook and Instagram) advertising technologies;
- Pinterest tags and advertising tools;
- Google advertising and measurement tools;
- Klaviyo or similar email marketing tools;
- similar advertising and campaign tools.
These tools may use information like cookie identifiers, pixel events, device information, browsing activity, purchase events, hashed contact details, or advertising identifiers, depending on your choices and each platform's settings.
Because these cookies aren't essential, we only use them with your consent — they aren't loaded until you've agreed, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. You can also manage advertising choices directly through the settings each advertising platform offers.
Affiliate, referral and review tools
Some tools help us run reviews, referrals, and invoicing — and how we treat their cookies depends on what they're for.
We may use third-party tools to support things like:
- customer reviews, ratings, and testimonials;
- referral and affiliate programs;
- partner tracking;
- invoicing, tax, and accounting records;
- electronic invoicing and reporting obligations;
- customer feedback and social proof.
These may include tools such as Judge.me, GoAffPro, or POP, or similar tools, depending on what's active on the website. They may use cookies or similar technologies to:
- remember whether you've already seen or left a review request;
- attribute a referral or affiliate visit;
- prevent duplicate or fraudulent referral activity;
- handle invoicing, tax, accounting, or legal compliance where needed.
How we treat these cookies depends on what they do:
- Where a tool is necessary for something you've asked for — like checkout, invoicing, tax, accounting, or fraud prevention — it may be treated as strictly necessary.
- Where a tool is used for non-essential tracking — like affiliate attribution, marketing measurement, or social-proof features — we only use it with your consent.
Studio and route-design tools
Our Studio saves your design on your own device so you can come back to it — that's part of the Studio working, so it doesn't need your consent.
When you use our Studio to create or personalize a poster, we use your browser's own storage to make the design process work.
Saving your design as you go. As you design, your browser automatically saves your work locally, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off. This uses a browser storage technology called IndexedDB — not a cookie in the usual sense, though it's still information stored on your device, so we explain it here.
That saved design holds only design content: your style, size, and orientation choices; the titles, subtitles, and stat labels you've typed; your colors; any markers you've placed; the simplified route from your uploaded file and its filename; and your map position. It holds no name, email address, IP address, or tracking or analytics identifiers, and it isn't used to recognize, profile, or track you.
It stays on your device. This saved design is not sent to us while you're working on it. Nothing reaches us until you click "Add to cart."
It doesn't need your consent. Saving your in-progress design is strictly necessary to provide the Studio you've asked to use — in the same way a shopping cart needs to remember what you've put in it. Because it's necessary for a service you've actively requested, it doesn't require consent, and you won't be asked for it in our cookie banner. It isn't used for analytics, advertising, or any other purpose.
How long it lasts. Your locally saved design expires after up to 90 days without any edits — each edit restarts that period. Some browsers (such as Safari) may clear it sooner. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Anything else in the Studio. If we ever use technologies in the Studio for non-essential purposes — such as analytics or marketing — we'd only do so with your consent, like any other non-essential cookie.
As explained in our Privacy Policy and Studio & Custom Orders Policy, your original route file is processed in your browser and never stored by us. Once you add a design to your cart, the design data is sent to us so we can prepare your print file — see those policies for how we handle it from there.
Third-party cookies and providers
Some cookies may be set by trusted third-party providers.
Our website may use third-party providers to help us run the store, process orders, understand performance, manage marketing, collect reviews, handle referrals, and support fulfillment.
Depending on what is active on the website, these may include:
| Provider or tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Ecommerce platform, storefront, cart, checkout, analytics, security and store functionality |
| Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal or other payment providers | Payment processing, fraud prevention and checkout support |
| Google Analytics | Website analytics and performance measurement |
| Meta tools, including Facebook and Instagram technologies | Advertising measurement, audience creation and remarketing |
| Pinterest tools | Advertising measurement, audience creation and campaign performance |
| Klaviyo or similar email marketing tools | Email marketing, newsletter management and marketing measurement |
| Judge.me or similar review tools | Reviews, ratings and customer feedback |
| GoAffPro or similar affiliate tools | Affiliate tracking, referral tracking and partner attribution |
| POP or similar invoicing/compliance tools | Invoice generation, VAT/tax information, electronic invoicing, SDI or other reporting workflows |
| Etsy integrations, Orderdesk or similar order tools | Order management and marketplace/order integrations |
| Print providers and fulfillment partners | Production, fulfillment, shipping and delivery support |
| Security, fraud-prevention, hosting and technical providers | Website security, fraud prevention, performance and technical support |
Not all of these providers necessarily set cookies directly on your device. Some may process information only after an order is placed or through backend integrations.
The exact cookies and technologies used may change over time as we update the website, Shopify apps, marketing tools, and fulfillment setup.
Where required, we will list active cookies and similar technologies in our cookie banner, cookie settings tool, or cookie table.
How to manage your cookie choices
You're in control — refusing non-essential cookies is as easy as accepting them.
Depending on where you live, you'll see a cookie banner the first time you visit — and wherever you are, you can manage your cookies any time from the "Cookies" link in the footer of our website. From the banner or the cookie settings panel, you can:
- accept all cookies;
- reject non-essential cookies — just as easily as accepting them;
- manage your choices by category;
- close the banner with the "X" — which keeps only strictly necessary cookies and sets nothing else;
- change your choices later, at any time.
We don't place non-essential cookies until you've given consent. You can change or withdraw your choices whenever you like using the cookie settings link on our website. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did lawfully before you withdrew it.
If you clear your cookies, or switch browser or device, we may need to ask for your choices again.
Browser and device controls
You can also manage cookies directly through your browser or device.
Most browsers let you block, delete, or manage cookies in their settings — usually in the privacy or settings section.
Just keep in mind that blocking all cookies may affect how the website works. For example, you might not be able to add items to your cart, check out, save your preferences, or use some Studio features properly.
Advertising platforms often offer their own privacy and ad-preference controls too. These are run by the platforms themselves, so they may not stop every kind of tracking or measurement.
Updates to this Cookie Policy
We may update this policy as our website, tools, or the rules around cookies change.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, when we:
- add or remove cookies;
- change the apps or providers we use;
- update our Studio or route-design tools;
- switch analytics or advertising tools;
- update our cookie banner or consent settings;
- need to reflect legal, technical, or business changes.
When we do, we'll update the "Updated" date at the top of this page. The version shown here is always the current one.
