It is not only the most well-known and established route but also the only route leading to Mount Kilimanjaro Peak that offers sleeping huts instead of camping, the luxury! The route provides a gradual slope, and it is often considered the easiest trail up the Mount Kilimanjaro Summit. But still, the route is not a walk in the park as most of the route is above 2800m/9200 ft, which can lead to altitude sickness. Not having enough time to acclimatize is one reason why the Marangu Route has a lower summit success rate. Starting at the Marangu Gate, the trail leads you through forests, beautiful alpine meadows, amazing giant cacti fields (giant lobelias), challenging rocky ravines, and volcanic landscapes. Although the Marangu Route is beautiful and scenic, as the ascent and descent are along the same path, it is often considered the least scenic route of all the Mount Kilimanjaro routes.
